I know that I haven't been around for the past 3 weeks, and I know that I won't be around much for the next three as well... but that doesn't mean that BITS has to shut down for that time! We just got a bunch of new members who I'm sure are dying to start entering shows and getting involved... so hold some shows! Write up some updates! Recruit some new members! Be active in SOME way, guys! I feel like I'm the only one propping this game up sometimes, and I won't be able to do this forever... if you guys want this game to stay around, you're going to have to put some effort into it as well.
At this point, making money so I can pay my rent is a little bit more important. If the game can't be a little bit more self-sustaining, then... well... It's not going to stick around for very much longer. BITS is no fun for anyone if no one holds shows, starts associations/registries and keeps them active, writes updates, etc etc etc. I spend HUNDREDS of hours coding you guys this awesome new portal so that you don't have to keep track of ANYTHING anymore (in theory therefore giving everyone more time to focus on staying active and not having to worry about tedious record keeping), but since it went live, it seems that activity levels have dropped even lower. I'm not trying to guilt-trip anyone here, but to be honest... I feel a little bit unappreciated and even taken advantage of. I put this game at the very top of my priority list for a long time so that I could make it the best it could be for all of you, expecting only activity in return.
If you can't be active, that's fine -- you don't have to be in the game. But if you are in the game, show me a little respect here and hold up your end of the deal.
To the new members -- don't be afraid to get active, even if it seems quiet! You can all hold shows, buy land, start a stable, tell us about your horses, breed some horses, open up a registry/association, tell other people about the game and convince them to join... anything you want to do! Don't worry if it takes me a while to get your horses or establishments approved -- just go ahead and get active!
I'm sorry if this came off as bitchy. I'm frustrated right now, and the added stress is getting to me. In case anyone isn't aware, I'm currently working on 4 really big projects that have the potential to help my business really take off -- I need to focus almost all my attention on doing a good job here, which means I need some help. I don't need anyone to take over any tasks -- there's nothing so crucial that it can't wait a few weeks -- I need people to help out by BEING ACTIVE and keeping the game running smoothly without stalling!
Why don't we start by holding some shows? With the new randomizers, it takes about 10 minutes to do results for a huge show. If you don't want to worry about the spreadsheets, and that's what's stopping you from holding shows, then screw them. Don't do them for now if that's what it will take for you to be active. Maybe one day I'll code a randomizer that automatically enters everything in the database and then you won't have to work at all... Seriously, if not having to do the spreadsheets immediately will encourage activity, then don't do the spreadsheets immediately! I'm too busy for the next little while to get them input anyway.
If shows aren't HUGE and don't take hours to enter, people will be more likely to participate. Consider making entry fees one flat rate per stable as opposed to different amounts for each class that take an hour to add up Offer prize money -- the BSF will give you any amount of money you want to support payouts! And if you don't get tons of entries, don't give up! Keep trying -- your horses are building a show record and getting seen, and if nothing else, that's a good thing.
So I will end with that. Hold some shows, people!
