I read in the rules that to breed a mare, you have to wait 11 months for the foal to be born. Is that RL months or do you have like a SIM Month = Like 1 RL week? If it's RL months, doesn't that take the fun away from breeding horses, having to wait so long for the foal?

Nope, BITS time = RL time, so yo have to wait 11 RL months for the foal to be born =) I've always done breeding realistically, even in All-SIM... I find it makes people really think about the horses they're breeding, and cuts down on unneccessary and excessive breeding.

Time in BITS is just like RL time. 1 month = 1 month. No, believe it or not, it doesn't take away the fun of breeding your mare. It makes it more exciting if you ask me. In RL, do you not breed a good mare just because it takes 11 months for the horse to give birth? Also, just like in RL, horses here in BITS give birth at different times, meaning they could have the foal premature or late. This game is supposed to educate, not just be a fantasy realm where you make up your own horses and what not.

Ok..What about back breeding? You have a mare that is 1995 bred, she can start having foals in 1998, but the year is 2007. Can we breed her to have a 1998-2007 foal or are all foals born in the year they were bred in?

I agree with the RL time. It makes the game so much more realistic. I play on equine ranch which is completely automated and the horses age so fast its hard to enjoy the really talented ones.

lol No, if you breed a mare in, say, April of 2006, the foal will be born in March-ish of 2007. =) You can, however, back-breed the mare in All-Sim, or another game, and import the foal to BITS if you so desire. =)

Yeah - the excitement of waiting for the mare to foal is almost as exciting as it is in real life! =) And playing in real time is less confusing (I know that when I played a game with sim time of one month of game time equalling one week of real time, I got thoroughly confused-but I'm also easily confused) and, as Jen said, your best horses can have really long show careers and many babies. =) I'm sure you'll get used to it fairly quickly and come to enjoy it!

If a mare is bred in '06, then the foal will be born in '07. if the mare is bred in '98, then the foal will be born in '99. We have specific times of the year that we breed, like most RL show barns do. That way the foal is born between certain months.

Yes, it's bad if you have a foal born in December, because at one month old, that horse is considered a yearling.. . And that's not good lol.

So if I breed my mare in March of 2007 he/she will be born in January/Feburay of 2008, so the foal will be registered as an '08 baby and have no way to use any of my mares older years?

Yes, pretty much. But, as Maya said, you are able to back-breed your mare in All-SIM or another game which allows back-breeding, and then import that baby into BITS. RIght now, our importation laws are fairly lax, so you may want to take advantage of it. =)
And Evanthe, I keep typing my replies, but while I'm typing them, someone else posts before me. So I sound like a parrot too lol.

But in order to breed in All-SIM I have to export my mare? Or do I just use an outside stallion and then import the foal without having to export my mare and re-import her again? Sorry if I sound like an idiot, I'm just trying to get a feel for the game.

You can import older foals from earlier years, but once a horse is in the game, it can't be aged more than one year each year... So If you have a 1995 mare, and wanted a 2000 foal out of her, you'd have to breed the mare outside of the game, age the foal, and import the foal as a 2000 baby.

Ok, but what if I want to use an in-game stallion? Would it work the same way?

lol, sorry, I answered before your post showed up.
Nah, you wouldn't have to export the mare =)

If the stallion owner says it's ok, and he's old enough to have a foal of that year, than yep, it would work the same way. =D Pretty much, as long as both the mare and stallion owners agree, it's all good.

Aw, Maya, shut up. You do more than that! =P You are underestimating your importance to the game. =)
And questions are good. If you ask questions, you want to know what you're doing in the game. Therefore, you'll be an active member. And active members are awesome.

Another breeding question:
If we breed our mare(s) in All-SIM and import the foal, do we have to wait the 11 months before importing? 'Cause All-SIM has it own 'time-frame'.
|
|
|
Post by Maya on Nov 5, 2006 13:11:23 GMT -5
No, in that case, you can import whenever you wish. =) However, you can only do this for foals you are aging. Like, if you bred your mare in 2006, wanted the foal born in 2007, and didn't want it to be any older, you wouldn't be able to do the importing thing.
I may change this, though, later on, if people abuse it.
