October White Lotus Driving Competition
Date: Oct. 12,13,14
Place: White Lotus Stables
Northumberland County, England
Time: 7:00 a.m. sharp for all three days
RULES:
1. Abuse will NOT be tolerated. Actions will be taken immediately and you will be escorted away.
2. There may be no other animals but horses near the stables or show rings at any time. People with animals that are not horses will be asked to leave. If they don’t leave, they will be escorted off of the property.
3. No other vehicles but the golf cart on the property, the trucks, cars, and trailers of those that are showing may be present. All vehicles that are not aloud to be here will be towed away.
4. Drafts must be ATLEAST four years old to drive.
5. The prospect class is for horses 3 yrs and younger of any breed
6. Classes may be cancelled at the judges’ discretion
7. Do NOT over enter your horse. Use common sense when entering classes.
8. Youth classes are for children younger than 18 yrs by Sept. 1st
9. Bellow are the rules and terms of the combined driving classes:
Combined Driving will take place all day on the second day. There will be four phases to the combined driving, all of which count for final placings. Champions will be named. Phases are as follows:
-Presentation: The judge grades on the cleanliness of the horses, tack, and vehicle, the matching of the horses or ponies, and the dress of the driver and groom(s). The judging is done at the halt.
-Dressage: Only calls for movements at the walk and trot. Test will be performed in a 40x100 meter arena with letter markers where transitions in speed and gait are to take place. Each movement will be scored on a scale of 0-10 with 10 being the highest point.Diffculty will increase as level increases. Movements may include the walk, the working trot, collected trot, extended trot, the halt, and the reinback. Horse should work in harmony, having similar confirmation, action, and movement. Your voice may be used as an aide.
-Marathon: This phase is based on speed and endurance. It tests the fitness and stamina of the horses, as well as the driver's knowledge of pace, over a 10-22 km course divided into 3 or 5 sections.
*phases are as follows:
A - 7 kilometers at any pace
B - 1.16 kilometers at the walk
C - 4.5 kilometers at the trot
D - 1.16 kilometers at the walk
E - 9.5 kilometers at the trot, obstacles at any speed
-Cones: This is the final phase of the combined driving class. This is a test of accuracy. The driver will negotiate a course of up to 20 sets of cones with a ball balanced on top of each cone. Training and Preliminary levels get cones spaced at 50cm. Intermediate and Advanced levels get cones placed at 20cm. If a ball is knocked down, penalties will be awarded. In all levels there are obstacles consisting of raised rails in a U formation and a wooden bridge. Circling before obstacles or refusing obstacles will also award penalties.
