Bits 4H Open Show - Entries close 4/23

Okay everyone... first show hosted by the Bits 4-H Association, so I apologize if it's a little rough around the edges. If you have any suggestions to what we can do better for the next one, or even this one, please please please let me know!

This is an open show so anyone can enter, you don't have to be registered with 4-h to participate!

Entries close April 23rd, 2007!!

Rules:
1. ABSOLUTELY NO SMOKING OR ALCOHOL!
2. Dogs must be on a leash!
3. No youth may show a stallion
4. Horses must be over 3 years old to compete over fences.
5. No Horse Abuse!
6. Show good sportsmanship
9. Youth riders are riders under 18 years old
10. Stock horses are Quarter Horses, Paints, Appaloosas, ect. Pleasure horses are Morgans, Arabians, Thoroughbreds, ect.

Honestly, I don't think you need to offer any higher levels of dressage and showjumping... I'd even suggest taking Intermediate, Advanced, and possibly Prelim out of the eventing portion. Realistically, I don't think many 4H kids are going to be competing that high, and if they are, they probably don't have time for 4H shows, LOL.

You may not need the adult classes as 4-H is for youth only in RL, but I wasn't sure if you were doing your own thing with the classes either so I'd thought I let you know. It is divided by age groups in youth I think, like 11 & under, 13-15,........

Okay=} I didn't know how high to go on the eventing stuff since people requested some eventing so it's more like a Pony Club. I think I will leave them in there for the open shows so more people can come.

Jen, I think I will split the youth up, that's a good idea. The adult classes are only in here because this is an open show for anyone who wants to enter since we don't have anyone signed up (besides my two youth riders) in 4H right now.... lol.

Thanks guys for your input... I think I will change that right now.

Oh, and for the other, smaller shows, they will just be split into Dressage/Jumping/XC shows and Showmanship/Pleasure shows. They will be the same classes as this one, just split between weeks if that makes any sense=}

Ok yah duh for me. Yeah there are 4-H open shows that include adult classes. Pay no mind to me lol.

Yeah, as an open show, I think it functions well. I just wouldn't add them into the fair though. I was thinking it would be strictly for youth exhibitors. Hmm... I am not sure whether I am going to enter the adults or not now because I don't know whether I really need to enter all my open horses. Could I recommend a couple things, though? I wouldn't allow stallions at this show at all because in RL I have never come across an open show that encouraged or allowed it. And what are the ages for colts vs. stallions, mares vs. fillies?

No, they wouldn't be at the fair. That might be a good idea about stallions... but how many geldings do we have? Myself, I have no geldings right now, but maybe other people do.


The ages are....
- 3 years and under are considered a colt or filly
- 5 years and under are considered junior horses (if you want to enter them in the jr. horse classes)

For the 'cross-country' section, will that be run as if it were part of an event, or is it acctually a whole event? It kinda bugs me when people run just cross-country lol, but since this is a 4H show, it makes sense As long as you make sure people understand that in RL, cross-country is only in shows as part of an event

I have geldings. I just think having stallys at a 4-H show wouldn't be really realistic, I guess.

Dana - Cross Country would be run separately. It's kind of foolish to do a whole event, because then it seems a most horses would only do that instead of the other jumper and dressage classes because an event takes so much out of the horses.

Gwen - Please don't take it as I was saying there weren't geldings in bits, it just seems like there's more stallions than geldings, so why exclude stallions? At the larger open show we do right before our fair, we have a stallions class. Given... nobody ever comes because stallions can be so hard to handle...

I think I added it up right... 28 classes at $3 per class... but let me know if I'm having a ditz moment, because it somehow doesn't seem right to me >.< I'll fix it asap.

This show should be tons of fun... Me and Phil* are both taking our big-ring jumpers in the Open II division, just for the heck of it... It will be interesting to see how things go in the hunter classes, I'm sure. The judges will probably be laughing so hard at us they won't be able to write on their score cards >.<
And Annie*, our only youth rider, will be riding one pony and showing her two year old in some 'just for fun and experience' classes, while Bronwyn*, Jolene*, and Jason* (3 boarders/students) will be taking advantage of the lower-stress atmosphere to put some more show mileage on their youngish horses.

I will be getting my entries in to you tomarrow or Friday night I promise Elise!! ;D Oh and at my local 4H it allows for stallions to compete in specialized 'stallion' classes and you have to be atleast 17 to handle a stallion and have had to pass a stud handling test and get approved before competing in a stallion class. . .which for us stallions are from age 2 years old and up. ;D
