DAY TWO
Welcome back to Horizon's Training Level Three-Day! Endurance day proved to be very challenging for some, while others breezed around the course fault-free. The cross-country included various questions, including two water complexes, a trakehner, a ditch combination, a bank complex, and other challenging obstacles.
Most competitors made it around the roads & tracks and steeplechases phases inside the time, with only Rhiannon and Pavel Karov* coming in a bit slow on Phase C.
Follwoing the same order-of-go as the dressage, Rockin' The Boat and Ethan Williams* were first on course. Rockin' The Boat was hesitant around most of the course, and the pair was eliminated at the first water where Rockin' The Boat stopped three times at element A, the log into the water.
Next was Bold As Brass, ridden by Rachael. Rachael rode very carefully, seemingly more concerned with getting over everything than with the time. Taking the long way at the second water cost them some time, and the pair came in eleven seconds over the optimum.
Following the chestnut mare was Roman Holiday and Maya Kenedy. The beautiful tobiano made the course look like it was nothing, fearlessly tackling every obstacle without a hitch. A double-clear round will certainly bump them up in the standings.
Next to go was our leader after dressage, Southern Grace and Kevin Jones*. The pair had trouble at Fence 9, the trakehner, where Southern Grace nearly refused. Kevin* rode well and she decided to go at the last second, but left a leg and had trouble regaining her balance on the backside, causing Kevin* to fall. He remounted, understandably disapointed, and finished the course.
Next on course was Illusion of Silence, ridden by Phoenix. This pair had an unfoutunate stop at element B of the ditch combination. Element A was a brush fence, then one stride to the ditch, and another stride to element C which was another brush fence. They conquered it the second time, but the refusal cost them precious seconds and the pair had a few time faults as well.
Flames Of Obsession and Geoff King* were next on course. The buckskin sabino hesitated at element A of the first water, but Geoff* was too determined to allow a stop and the pair finished the course fault-free.
September Sky and Rachel Ellis* were next to go. All eyes were on them, especially after Kevin*'s fall with Southern Grace, which pushed them into first place. September Sky galloped boldy around the course, but taking the long way at the second water cost them a few seconds and they came in just over the optimum time, though not enough to knock them out of first place.
Next on course was Rhiannon and Pavel Karov*. After their time faults on Phase C, Pavel* was determined to have a clear round. However, taking the long way at the bank complex caused them to lose a few precious seconds which they weren't able to make up.
HEC Reminiscent Raider and Paul McCoy* from Diamond Elite Farms were next on course. The time proved to be a little tight for this pair, who came in a bit slower than the optimum. Careful riding from Paul*, though, prevented them from having any jump penalties.
Trendsetter and Dana were next to go. This bold stallion easily cruised around the course fault-free, which should move them up from their 7th place test yesterday.
Our last competitors of the day were Flame Thrower and Bronwyn Hafton*. Flame Thrower was strong and resistant around the first half of the course, until Bronwyn* chose to retire after three separate refusals at the first water, trakehner, and ditch.
See everyone tomorrow for our final day of cometition, stadium jumping!
