Florida Horse Park / April 6-9, 2007.
The one star dressage phase was quite impressive! Razillian put in a wonderful test, demonstrating exceptional accuracy and relaxation. Dana seemed quite happy leaving the ring, with a huge smile on her face! Talisman was equally flawless -- I don't know how the judges managed to seperate the two. The low score of the division went to Renigold, who was very tense through the test. He and Andrei* made no technicaly mistakes, but were scored down for lack of submission and relaxation.
The general concensus among riders was that, overall, the one star course was a bit too easy... A few horses got quite 'looky' at the coffin complex and the big drop into the water, causing some time faults as riders were forced to slow down and recover from awkward landings, but only one combination actually had a stop. It's Alma, ridden by Dana, was not happy at all about the ditch element in the coffin. But, Dana dug in, reapproached, and recovered well to finish the course with no further problems and within the time allowed.
The stadium phase really shuffled the placings around, with a few horses obviously tired from their efforts the day before. Razillian looked poised to take an impressive win after going clean on cross country, but pulled three rails in the ring -- dropping him to fifth place. Lovely Vision, sitting in second, pulled a rail and was forced to go wide around the turn to the double combination, finishing with two time faults as well. His 6 fault total dropped him into third place, after an impressive clean round yesterday. Talisman and Dream In Chocolate, in 3rd and 4th places after cross country, both had one rail each, and Ethan*'s mount had an unlucky time fault as well. The horses in fifth, sixth, and seventh; strangely enough, all had clean stadium rounds. For Keepsake, this made all the difference, taking Nick* and his mount from fifth to first!

Dressage was not as impressive in the two star division, with the judges commenting on the overall lack of submission and relaxation among the entrants. Both Eunis and Hats Off seemed very eager to go cross country, and let out a few bucks throughout their tests. Both Rickie* and Annabelle* were seen afterwards laughing about the 'croup high' comments on their tests! Cross country went well, with no problems for the majority of riders. Rush Hour really backed off at the drop into water and almost sent Breanne in for a swim, but she managed to hang on, and they got through the complex the second time around. A Classic Hero came in deep to the first element in the bounce combination, and couldn't get his feet underneath him quickly enough to make it over the second, incurring 20 penalties. Fortunately, they got through it in the second attempt, and finished the course with only one time fault.
Stadium was, according to all the riders, very smple and straight forward, with no issues. A Classic Hero had an unlucky rub in the last element of the triple, just barely brushing the rail with his left hind, and gained 4 more penalties.

Good show, everyone! We have a really good group of high quality horses competing at these international events -- Everyone should be proud of their performance, regardless of placing.
