My horse says it's still pending, does that mean it's not official yet? I'm still getting into the swing of things, but since it's pending I didn't know if I could do the november activity check as I didn't know if my horse counted.

Yep, you can go ahead and participate as you would with 'Active' horses. Since the automatic horse approval thingy is still in the works, I just go in every once in a while and approve by hand... so sometimes it takes a bit before it gets done.
You don't need to wait to do anything, once the horse is entered into the database, it exists. If there are any issues, you'll be contacted whenever the next approval cycle is.
